Straight leg jump through Part III Finally!

OK I know it never truly counts until it's done on a sticky mat but this will do for me. While in the bath I was thinking that the only thing stopping me was' The Fear" afraid I was going to break a toe or put a foot long splinter in my foot from the floorboards. Noticed too how smooth and shiny the bathroom floor was. So gave it a go with socks and here it is, my first ever straight leg Jump through, three of them in fact. I probably would have been jumping up and down except I wasn't 100% sure I'd done it 'till I looked at the video.

I'll spend a few days on this and then try and put down what it is I think I'm doing and what's making the difference. I'll say one thing though, compared to the Cross legged jump through it's almost effortless, very light and floaty, it's all technique you don't have to be that strong to do this, there's a knack to it.

Just couldn't go to bed on this without hitting the mat.

oh my GOD! Adorable smile at the end. Well done Grimmly. I knew you'd do it. What I admire about you is that you fearlessly approach things. A quality I like in people!

Have a great weekend!

:-)

I do love this playful spirit.

p.s. UB lifts the hips. It's a forward bend.

Hey! Cool!

I don't do this... but I should try it. I like the hovering and the unfolding of the cross-leg jumpthrough, though, so I haven't much thought about straight-legging it. Also, I once was told that my legs are too long and my torso too short for a straight-legged approach but that can't be true, can it?

I don't think so, anyway.

I love the smile at the end, too! Very sweet.

Thanks Liz, Owl, am so happy about this one.

Think your right too about Uddiyana bandha Owl, not engaging either of them here, should give me the little extra control I need, landing just a little short.

Does this mean I can come and practice in those West coast Shala's now.

Joy, whoever told you that was being a complete dumbass. You can tell them I said so.

Grim, we actually don't give a crap about your jump-though, but please bring the stripey pants.

And yes, over time you'll find several inches in height... for now just get the hips through the arms. Then get them up, hover, and drop them through like a swing.

I just remember you saying somewhere that you tend to do straight leg jump throughs on the west coast as opposed to crossed on the east coast.

Still prefer the floaty crossed legged one Joy but this IS cute and I don't think leg length makes a difference either .... although I kinda did before this evening.

True. I'm actually not sure about east coast convention... (maybe they do straight legs too?). I don't see well enough to note when I'm out there.

Hilariously, SKPJ used to say:

"Jump through straight legs sit down."

OH GAWD!

Does that mean jump through WITH straight legs or jump through THEN straight legs????

I imagine there is an Authorized Teacher writing a First Amendment to the Yoga Mala on just this topic...

Cameras used

I've been asked which camera I use for the pictures and videos on this blog.

This year, 2011,
I'm using the SamsungWB210
from 2008-2009
Panasonic Lumix DCMFX-500

Both have a mega wide angle lens, ideal for getting the whole of a posture in a shot and while filming in a small room in lowish light.
I tend to film the vinyasa with the video function and then take screenshots.
I edit with Quicktime pro on my imac, compressing with the export for web feature to post on YouTube
