Knees down heels up.

Noticed this, Thursday evening, on my first primary for Six weeks.

Knees down

Heels up

I'd resigned myself to not getting my heels up in Kurmasana, when it happened I think I was more delighted than when I grabbed my heels in Kapo. It's always felt like that old hand trick.

Get your friend to put their hand flat on the table palm down, now have them curl their second finger under so the tip of the finger is touching their palm. Point to their little finger and ask them to wiggle it , no problem, now bet them twenty quid they can't move the next finger and point at the ring finger. It wont move, just wont move the tiniest bit. Collect your winnings and get the beers in.

That's how my feet felt every time I tried to raise my heels.
Thought my legs/knees might go flatter in Baddha konasana one day but not after six weeks off.

Not sure how to best explain it. Was it the Six weeks of Vinyasa Krama, the first evening practice in a long long while, or perhaps because i hadn't has such a sweaty practice since the Autumn?

Thanks, not sure why it chose to happen now, legs bit higher up closer to the shoulder perhaps, possibly some of those deep forward bends from VK seated. But perhaps it's just warmer weather....belive me it's warmer : )

OK, while reading your post I got this intuitive thought, and it may be crazy but will say it anyway, do you think maybe the touching of the heels in kapotasana may have something to do with it? I say cause it comes written on the same sentence, and wondered wheather some unconscious mechanism may be connecting the two. I will keep it in mind to try raising the heels in kurmasana whenever I get to touch my heels in kap, and if it does happen, I will link to this post... dont hold your breath though.

ok, my word verification is skyso, as in schizophrenic... you know WHAT blogger???!!!

Claudia, got to be honest I can't see how it could be, surely completely different, forward bend/backbend, but then what do I know : )

I think it's to do with all those seated asanas in Vinyasa krama, Seated Sequence, Asymmetric sequence, LOTUS sequence. probably spending a week on all of those and those longer stays had an effect. Add to that the evening practice and my being a lot hotter and sweatier and having had a break, approaching the poses slightly differently. But again I'm guessing.

You have the book don't you? Have you looked at the 'On one leg' sequence, it's a nightmare absolute agony, all those squats. Decided to use it for my standing sequence for VK instead of my usual; adapted Ashtanga standing and regretting it already, can hardly walk now my muscles ache so much.

Now that will be interesting, talking about intuition, I have this idea that stronger legs will improve dropbacks. We don't tend to do enough leg work in Ashtanga, there's what, that one half squat in Standing and a hint of it in Sury B. Lot's of upper body strength not much leg strength. Ok Now I'm going to duck (notice I'm still using 'we' talk about Schizophrenic).
