Nice surprise at work today, one of the son's of my late boss brought me down a book. Seems they were clearing out one of their fathers rooms and came across a copy of Iyengar's Light on Yoga (1985), well thumbed too so it looks like he might have practiced a bit.
Always nice when you find out someone practiced for a while back in the day. Reminded me that I'd had a brief flirtation with it in my twenties. I remember buying a hardback edition of the same book and trying a bunch of the postures, I remember getting frustrated with the layout of the book back then just as now, still the coolest yoga book ever though.
No not saying it's the best nor my favourite just the coolest (the old paperback edition anyway)..

Particularly good guide in the back for cross-referencing postures recommended for different ailments.
never really bought into all the curing ailments claims, isn't there a posture that's supposed to cure leprosy. That said I like Ramaswami's explanations for why certain postures may have beneficial effects.
Btw I'm saying it's the coolest yoga book (at least the old paperback editions, not the new fancy versions), not necessarily the BEST ever
Let me take that back Steve, really enjoying reading it more thoroughly, I think in the past I only really read the posture instructions. He's vary reasonable in his comments concerning ailments and benefits, rather than making wild claims, though of course you raise an eyebrow at some. Love the little snippits about wherethe name of the postures come from, wonderful wonderful book.
