For the last couple of years I've been using the 2nd series Dwi pada entry (both legs behind head), now I had to try and remember how I used to get into it the old way. I used to do something I called the Supta K shuffle but it took me a week or so to re learn it. I'd always meant to film this as I've come across several bloggers mentioning that they struggle to get into the pose without a teacher to cross their feet for them.
So here it is while I remember, the trick is to shuffle the left foot as far over to the right as possible so it meets the right foot. Use the outside of the top half of the right foot to lever the heel up and over the left foot to hook them together, then you can move both feet to the center of the mat and curl your head in. You can get in tight enough that you can lift up almost as if you do have both legs all the way behind the head.
and here's the Supta K shuffle on it's own.

This is exactly how I am currently working this pose...except that my shoulders aren't quite where they need to be. The feet do the shuffle as you show here and get where they need to go. The bind, however, is still not happening. I'm practicing.
Hi kristen, does shuffling your backside a little further forward towards your feet help at all, seem to remember that worked for me. The other thing I remember was thinking of the arm movement as putting a coat/jacket on, you know how you kind of lean forward and twist your shoulder and turn and push your second arm through the sleeve when putting on a jacket, that kind of thing but obviously with both arms. i was reminded of it recently because i thought was a similar thing in pasasana (first pose of 2nd).
I hope to one day get into this pose on my own. Right now it is at the manipulation of my teacher. I can't get Kurmasana with straight lets and Supta I am "almost" binding.
Your practice is so inspiring.
Thanks Flo, it'll come of course and it's an important one too leads into all those leg behind head postures that come later so worth all the work.
