Old videos and new

OLD :
Videos from when I first started Ashtanga

While hunting through some old files buried away on my hard drive I came across a file called 'griyoga' which turned out to contain a bunch of old videos, taken on my phone, from when I first started practicing Ashtanga ( probably around april/may 2007. Actually more like June as I notice the Jute mat I bought for a trip to Paris, so been practicing about three months) . I think I've come across one or two of these before but most I'd completely forgotten about. I've stitched them together, and while I cringe a little a little at the thought, here they are. Come to think of it, my Utthita hasta padangusthasana often doesn't feel that much better than here.

NEW :
David Garrigues' Dropback with blocks technique

Took a while, but finally got on the mat for Intermediate series. Backbends had felt good so decided to play around with dropbacks a little more and try to splay the feet a little less. Remembered David Garrigues recent dropback posts where he puts a block between the thighs to narrow the stance, decided to give that a try.

All I can say is: My God, your wife is so lucky! 4 years ago she was married to Mr. Average Chubby Guy, and today she has this well trained athletic handsome husband.

What a metamorphosis!

Supposedly she kind of misses the chubby guy with more meat on his bones who didn't disappear at five every morning.

Wow, congratulations. This practice has changed you for the better. This practice probably changes all of us.

I realized that you progress very fast, but so fast.
You are not only thinner, but also softer. It must be satisfying for you how far you came already on that exciting yoga path. Yep let's practice and blog another year. We'll meet on these sides, this is wonderful.
Happy practices.

I remember evil Mick on Saturday afternoons, belly is about right but I don't remember him having a beard.

Thanks Ursula guess the practice has done part of it's job.
'Changed me for the better', I guess, fitter and healthier now but I'm amazed at how dedicated I was back then. Easy to be disciplined when it's going well, but as somebody just said on youtube, that's some of the sloppiest Ashtanga ever, feel a little proud of myself for sticking with it back then and trying so hard.
happy practice to you too.

Wow Grimmly that is just amazing!
I was thngking that I am kind of progressing... But after watching your old video, and new videos, I understand that I am like... Didnt even roll my mat yet!:) If you get what I mean:)

Simply Amazing!

Btw, about that "surprised that I sticked to it" thing - it seems to me that in the beginning, when you do everything wrong (not exactly you, but I mean generally), it is the most interesting and amusing thing, so that doesnt appear to me as being surprising:)

Thanks Evgeniy, no doubt right, at the time your wrapped up with so many things and lots of little improvements here and there.

Hi, this is adorable, so good to remember the beginnings of it all ha?! loved the Utitta Hasta part... and the "after" video, really got a kick out of how you can grab the block with your foot, will you be doing a webinar on that?

Thank you Claudia, kind of like looking at someone else, find myself charmed by the effort he's putting into it. I imagine him looking at the camera and asking, "UHP, it'll get easier right?" Don't have the heart to tell him, "no not really, but stick with it anyway".

Ahh yes, I'm doing a weekend workshop at Triyoga on Advanced block vinyasa
