Stream from Joisyoga is just about to start again, 2nd practice of the day (2nd series this morning) wasn't sure if they would run it continuously.Oh here we go.......
UPDATE 20:30
That was tough..... but fun. Room was a lot hotter than I've had it recently (being afternoon rather than early morning) and Sharath is going a lot faster than I tend to take my own primary.
Struggled a bit with my timing, my breath tends to be longer and slower, found it hard to get into and then stay in sync with his count. Sweated buckets though and I think I might take my Friday Primary faster from now on. Jump throughs were awkward too, can't do the high slow Kino jump through I'm used to on his count, need to switch to the simpler ( not in a bad way) one or polish the straight leg jump through. I tend to mix them up a bit in my own practice but think I might settle on the straight leg.
That said his count wasn't fast enough for my liking in Utthita hasta Padangustasana, that hurt, think I've been cheating a little.
Navasana was the hardest though, haven't really done it since I had the back problem a couple of months ago, legs were shaking like crazy. At one point he said don't shake legs and I wanted to look over and see if he was looking at me.
Not used to having to race into the next pose, think I've slipped into bad habits need to tighten up my whole practice and brush it off a bit.
A month in Mysore might not be a bad thing, tempting, but when?
I took a video, didn't really set it up so it's a bit rough but I liked the idea of trying to catch practicing at home with the stream.

How cool!!! :-) It was sweet to say the prayer at the end with everyone, may we all be at peace
Just posted an update and a link to a video Claudia.
I am back after the update and...
HA HA HA you had me laughing twice once was of course:
his count wasn't fast enough for my liking in Utthita hasta Padangustasana, that hurt
Yes. EVERYONE felt that way, believe you me...
and the second one was when you said that when he said dont shake the legs he might have been looking at you, HA HA HA, the funny thing is I thought he was saying that to me too, and I believe James thought so too... aren't we funny people?
The month in Mysore is brilliant for cleaning it up, and it does get one to focus on sitting and grabbing the legs looking up etc, is like military... very concrete, very to the point.
When? c'mon! hee hee
Wish I could be there. Personal opinion regarding the count, which depends upon breath. Longer breath is better. Sherath is dosha vata type and his pace is by constitution faster. Vata types should strive for a slower pace practice and emphasize grounding poses more, compensating for their ether and air elements.
thanks for your blog and videos, which have encouraged me to spend more time on home practice rather than going to hatha yoga studios. Practice, flexibility and achieving challenging poses have advanced significantly since practicing more at home.
Thanks so much, especially the information on Vinyasa Krama.
Did seem a nice atmosphere there, Sharath was charming and relaxed, nice to see him work the room.
Yes Mysore boot camp, difficult to take a whole month off and use up all my holiday in one go again, perhaps when they move into their new digs, is that next year?
Your welcome Quentin. It was of course a led class so all a bit faster perhaps. be good to do it a little faster once a week and keep my regular breathing the rest. mainly though I need to tidy it all up a bit and get rid of the areas i've been cheating without realising. legs ache this morning, in fact, everything aches : )
Hi Grimmly,
I think hid CD is even a bit faster.
This is also the challenge of a led class, to get out of the routine.
I loved the atmosphere, too
And I wish for you to go to Mysore, I know you'll love it.
Namaste
Ursula
I have the CD and his DVD Ursula and yes I agree both faster. That was why I was looking forward to practicing with him on the Joisyoga stream, wanted to see the pace he usually takes it. I was surprised I struggled a little, I always used to use his dvd and would race through primary in just under an hour. That was two years ago though, now I tend to saunter through it in around two hours. Of course it's still a led class I wouldn't want to take it sacrifice the breathing I've developed but I want to tidy everything else up, streamline it a little. Perhaps a month of primary.
Must work out how much a month in Mysore would actually cost.
Grimmly, the timeline as of when I left was 18 months, so that puts us, lets see in july 2012 for the new shala, then again, it is India... so my guess is it could take longer...
As per the price, let me break it down
Fromt he US it is 1000/1200 dollars for a round trip with Emirates (which is lovely) so from Europe it should be less, I am guessing what 800 dollars?
Say it is 1000, then shala about 700 for the month, rent calculating very conservatively if you were to go at the peak of the season 200, food 100, things you will want to buy 50, if you want some tailred things (pants worked really work for J) 50, so, give or take 2100... dollars, or what 1200 Euros? the only real question is, what about Nietzche?
Claudia, your just wonderful, interestingly I just sold a sax this week, was thinking of an ipad but hmmmmm
sounds like around 650 GBP + flight, sold my sax for 750 : )
M would look after nietzsch, sometimes she goes to japan for a couple of weeks anyway so I'm stuck with a couple of weeks holiday spare. Not this year perhaps but next year might be possible. When are you hoping to go again, what does your excell sheet say?
Just checked, about 450 GBP for a return flight to Bangalore Jan-feb 2012 Emirates
SKPJ's count was much faster.
I noticed you didn't stick to the count all the time, especially during the vinyasas. That's why it's important to take class from time to time (to learn to surrender, and to practice the method *correctly*).
Come to Chicago and we'll clean you up in no time flat.
450 GBP is not bad... that Englad is so expensive, but still less than what I pay... one more thing I forgot, is the car service to and from Bangalore, about 80 dollars total 40 each way.
Wait, I just saw that there was a comment before the 450...
HA HA HA, my excel sheet has me going twice a year.. would not trust that one too much hee hee
I want to go whenever there is room really and it is possibly logistically, this year, next year... would be good to see you there...
by the way, don't know if you saw this post but it has all sorts of info about Mysore compiled... can also be reached at mysorepedia.com so that it is easier to remember... http://earthyogi.blogspot.com/2011/01/claudias-guide-to-mysore-india.html
Yes yes I know your mysorpedia, an excellent resource , wonder who's behind it : )
Faster CK! What's the point of a breathing practice with no time to breath. Guess it's fast but deep, got so used to my slower, longer breathing I forget. Didn't realise till yesterday how much I'd changed the pace.
yes, struggled with the vinyasa, couldn't work out his rhythm. Kept having to wait for him where of course he was waiting for everyone else. Weird practicing with others, not used to it.
I've captured the stream and going to spend next week on it, possibly a month. Wish he'd stream his 2nd.
Got this idea of a metronome in my head, want to work out the different beats/tempo between my slow practice and Sharath's faster one. I should be able to practice at a different tempo and yet still keep the melody the same.
Wasn't serious about the 'what's the point of a breathing practice without any time to breathe' crack, before anyone takes offence...though come to think of it......
