Using the sofa / couch to work on landing Bakasana

Thought this might be a good way to do some bakasana homework, the fear is toppling on your face right? This way the sofa stops your arms going too far forward.

I used to have the slinky, straight arm, floaty version, you can see it at the end of the above clip but I seem to have lost the exit, haven't done 2nd Series for six weeks ( the Led primary for a month experiment) so am a little rusty.

Here's how I used to do it, must try and get that back.

Very interesting, Grimmly. Let me see if I understand your methodology correctly: Is the idea to progressively move further and further away from the sofa, and in this way, overcome the fear of falling on one's face?

Yep

hey, nice light there in the studio what did you do? did you open a window or something? love how the sun comes in! great idea on the floating with the sofa. In the hotel where we were staying near Ramaswami there was a sofa of exactly those proportions, they are lovely! now I want to have one but I am affraid the budget will only allow for a futon, oh well, will make sure it is cushy... very nice Grimmly, what a fantastic idea!

I use the couch like that for slow bunny hops to handstand. It solves for the fear of going too far forward.

That's fantastic yogi Anthony. I must try this, too.

I know, and HD too : ) opened the blinds a little. usually I'm not wearing enough clothes during practice, too much flesh for colour, feel B&W is a little more discreet.

That sofe/couch has been the bane of my life, can't move it out of the Shaal, won't go upstairs and have no car to dump it.Still finding a use for it lately what with this and the tictacs.

Thanks karen, the both of you are making me feel better about my damned couch.

Now salvinder do you really think it's polite spamming through somebodies comment box, poor very poor.

Thank you ursula although yogi Anthony reminds me a little too much of Yogi VIc : )

I pretty much agree during practice Bindi but this is homework, extra curricula.

Now all I need is a sofa with space infront ; ) Nice post, lots of food for thought. Today's Bakasana, the first try I ended up in a bent knee hand stand, for a surprisingly long time, long enough to think now how exactly do I get my knees down and in position, again third time lucky, but landing on shins. Between this kind post and Maehle's book I have homework for a week. Thanks as always for sharing x

Sorry エスタI didn't think, of course you have no sofa in that tatami room of yours. Sounds like it's coming on though, good luck with it.
