So the ipad arrived and what a thing of beauty it is (there it is on my workbench with a sax I was working on behind it). Needless to say, blogging has gone out the window as has visiting and commenting on anyone's blog (sorry, but hey it's an ipad) and the evening's pranayama and meditation as well for that matter, what can I say, planes to land, melons and pineapples to slice, large monsters in armour to dispatch and screwed up pieces of paper to toss.
I'm working on a post though, 101 ways to use an ipad in yoga, so far I'm at around number 3, a lot more research to do, might be AWOL for a while.
James commented 'Your life has just changed. Its like the yoga of technology'. Not what he meant but think about this, it twists and turns, bends this way and that, even stands on it's head, the ipad is the yogi par excellence...if only it would start up like it's big brother imac here with a deep resonant AUM.
Anyway, on a much more serious note, while in shoulderstand my lotus just popped into place all on it's own and I thought I'd try the headstand one too, just, JUST made it, so thought I'd post the video to show I'm not completely wasting my time at the moment but focusing on deeply spiritual practices.
OK, I'm kidding what serious yogi would waste his time with such frivolities...(see 2:23 in )
...although it's perhaps worth noting that I had operations on my knees years ago and never thought I'd manage a lotus at all let alone 'look mum, no hands'.
But back to ipad. This is a first generation ipad. managed to get it cheap, refurbished, planning ahead for the ipad6, but hang on, how can that be, it has the 2nd generation smart cover.
Found a site that shows you a cheat. Stick a couple of rare earth magnets on the back of your little beauty and voila.
Can't find the link ( found it )on how to do this but my approach is slightly different anyway. The important thing is to line up your magnets on the back of the ipod with those on the smart cover. Draw around them in pencil and stick them on, I used evo-stic a kind of rubber glue, didn't want to use superglue for obvious reasons, this seems strong enough. Make sure that when you glue the magnets on you haven't turned them around and got the polarization wrong, good to mark the magnets with an arrow pointing to the smart cover before you start with the glue.
I put my magnets on the back because they were a bit too big, too square, if you can get smaller ones you can put them on the side as in the video HERE

You just wait until iCloud, Lion & iOS 5 arrive in 'the fall' (U.S. term for Autumn, not a bad drop-back by the way).
The iPad is still in it's infancy. When that lot kick in, I think I'm going to book a month in Mysore, so I can have practice done by 6.00 and have 18 hours left to play!
Is that Dharma Mittra's-poster-as-screensaver?
(He also uses a Mac and has read the Sutras from an iPad).
HA HA Ha funny post Grimmly, and you look so yogic in your new I-Pad... and I agree with you that they should start with an OM :-) Enjoy!!!
Oh, did you donwload kindle yet? I love having some of my yoga books travel with me...
Saw something about the cloud, looks a bit like dropbox no? As you say this is still early days, I did one of the first o-levels in computer studies 35 years ago. There wasn't even a screen just a teletype linked to the University mainframe. The only game was landing a lunar module, you typed in how many seconds to burn fuel for and that was that.
Yes indeed it is CK, bit cheeky. Love that he has an iPad.
Thanks Claudia. Yes I have the kindle app on here, love the sample feature. I like iBooks though and have your book on that. That was one of the main reasons I bought it , I have a tonne of books ebooks but never felt comfortable reading them on the mac, this is just perfect.
By the way I just posted a picture of a sax on FB but have a look in the top corner of the picture.
Hi Grimmly,
I haven't posted for a while but still loving your blog (and working my drop backs and stand ups, thanks to all your advice)!!
I hate hate hate to seem like a party pooper - but having also had knee surgery (a menisectomy) on my right knee two years ago thanks to a junior teacher helpfully pushing my lotus knee to the floor in Janu C (I know! Can you believe it?) although I can do lotus with no hands, gosh, I treat it with great caution and move like a snail until everything is in place. We only have the two knees and once they're buggered, we're really in trouble...
Of course it's nothing to do with me, but I would implore you to love your little knees more, and be grateful for all the hard work they do for you and move into a no-hands lotus gently and slowly...it would be such a disaster if something were to go wrong here...!!!
Yours, with the best possible intentions...despite raining on your parade (sorry, sorry!)

Hi Kate, thanks for commenting and the word of caution and concern ( no apology necessary ). As it happens my knees seem fine with this, no strain on them at all, perhaps because it's quite a loose lotus, it's my shins that were more of a concern when i was learning it, kept banging my heels into them.
Everyone's knee problems are different of course, still amazed I can do all the things I can in yoga ( i could only do standing kata in iaido for example in the past). The only time I feel discomfort now is after staying in lotus longer than 20 minutes or so. I can stay an hour but I really feel it when I unfold it. I tend to use half lotus for a really long sit. Oh and left side of Purna mastsyendrasana is really hard for me.
thanks again for the concern, I am and will continue to be be mindful of them.
Dear Grimmly
Can't wait for mine. And to think I ask my flatmate almost 3 times a week when I can get one. haha. patience.
Cheers
Arturo
It'll be worth the wait Artuto, such a cute thing, I'm streaming the Jois dvd straight from my imac to the ipad in my practice room....so that's 4 only 97 more to come up with....
