Friday primary this morning, hot and sweaty, nice detox...or not. Switched back to Vinyasa Krama during the week so this and Sunday's upcoming 2nd are my only Ashtanga practices, so making the most of them.
The Vinyasa Krama during the week has been good though, some Bow and meditative sequences focusing on backbends, Asymmetric and seated with a strong Leg behind head focus and then yesterday, Supine and inversion subroutines, a nice week.
The video below is of Bhuja Pidasana to Supta Kurmasana, I filmed it last week for some reason I forget but was reminded of it this morning as I worked through the poses. I've noticed that where before I used to try and get my foot as far as possible behind my head in LBH ( leg behind head) postures, recently I've taken to just getting the foot behind the head leaving space for me to twist in and work my body through my leg (see 1:08 into the video) thus getting the leg further behind the head that way. If you try and get the foot as far as possible behind the head straight off there's no room for working your body further through and thus getting deeper into the pose. I don't know if this is an option that's open to me because I've been doing LBH for a while or if it'll help when you first start with them, worth a try perhaps.
The other thing that I've found useful is holding the 2nd leg further down, low on the calf, almost behind the knee, again find I'm able to take the foot further over the first.
Noticed that where i used to hook the feet/ankles together to hold the legs behind my head I'm finally able to relax them and get that nice bowtie/fishtail effect, kind of stupid to get excited about but feels more elegant.
In the comments somebody mentioned my forward bend in Kurmasana and and that I'm bending more from the waist than the hip. that might be true, I tend to lift up , out and forward in most of my forward bends but perhaps here, jumping into the pose I forget to. Forgot to check this morning, must remember to next week.

Man, I totally forgot to practice Kurmasana today!!!! Only realised when I saw the title of this post! That must be the first time ever to totally bypass it without a thought.....oops, guess my body didn't want to do it after my week of messy dwipada... ;) Ha ha! Nice video tho, need to figure out how to get video up again, first one was a fluke ; )
エスタ That happened to me a few weeks ago too, I could not believe it.
Grimmly nice video, good to see it as I step on the mat "early!", I am going in now, good inspiration, and I am excited about the fish feet, nothing wrong with that, it does look elegant! :-)
Fantastic!
Thanks, do like this section of the practice now the weather is warmer. can slide deeper in there.
Dear Grimmly
Looks like you have a good sweat there on your back. I don't sweat too much with the VK practice. At the moment it suits me because once I'm done with my bathroom hour, my flatmates have claim to their time in it, so showering after practice is not possible. I just pat any sweat now before going to work. I might be moving to an apartment with just one roommate in December, so the bathroom will be available once again and a more sweaty practice will be welcome.
Cheers,
Arturo
Hi Arturo. The sweat is a bit of a problem for VK, we do Supt K there too in the Seated sequence but it's harder to get nice and deep without the sweat, what with the slower pace and lack of jump throughs. Here of course I'm doing it in the Ashtanga Primary ( it's Friday) so good and sweaty.
here is a better view of you anterior rib cage grimmly looks long
