Finishing
From bdproffy's excelent YouTube channel
Sri K Patarbhi Jois taking Chuck Miller, Richard Freeman, Tim Miller and Maty Ezraty through the Ashtanga finishing backbend sequence. Viparita Chakrasana, Vrschikasana, Setu Bandhasana and chakra Bandhasana. 1989 Encinitas CA.
I've also posted at my new blog Practicing Vinyasa Krama at home , this week, on the problem of working towards more challenging postures in Vinyasa Krama, backbending in particular.
And another one today on how in Vinyasa krama you come up on the inhale and your feet are together throughout, eek. See this post.

Setu Bandhasana?
35 seconds in, roselil, where you fold you arms across your chest and get dropped back, forehead to the mat and back up again, that's what Sweeney calls it.
Thrilling! I wanted to yell "Richard scissor kicks up!" (because I always beg my teacher to let me do it thar way). :-)
I love seeing RF do this and then Tim Miller. They are working from opposite ends of the strength/flexibility spectrum toward the middle (balance between those two ends) & I am always curious to see how strong body vs flexy body plays out.
Also very pleased to see these advanced practitioners look a little discombobulated during this sequence -- because I always feel that way during this part of the practice.
Thanks for posting!
Amazing to watch! I always feel bad letting the class wait while I wait for the teacher to come assist students one by one with drop backs so I rush to do it myself whether I am ready to do them or not. In a way it helps me become independent faster but I can't believe how anxious I get even in yoga class! Also I think it makes the teacher think I don't want his help when the opposite is true!
In the video I think a few people were rushing too and guruji had to keep telling them to slow down. So I'm not alone with this mentality then :)
Hi Karen, aren't they great, you have some of these old videos no? I think I have the full practice of this one but I don't remember the backbend sequence being on it. Make a change from the perfect Swenson, Scott and Miele videos ( highly edited perhaps ) .
Hey Yyogini, did you notice how Tim is trying his damnedest to loosen his back up before its his turn. Sure they were all a little terrified of this bit.
I remember watching and re-watching this too, have the DVD, or was it the vhs? I think now is the dvd... very inspiring
Where it says I also posted at the vynasa krama... the link not working :( just so you know
Thanks for the heads up re the link Claudia, have fixed it.
I do have some of these vids, but have never seen this footage. So much fun to watch!
