Hit by the 2nd series truck

If yesterday's practice was the ecstasy this mornings was the agony, felt like I was hit by a truck. I weighed myself before practice 77.4 kilo, afterwards 75.5, that's pretty much two kilo in sweat.

There a stubbornness required of 2nd series, Primary flows along nicely, one pose into the next, before you know it your at finishing ( or at least Supta K). With 2nd you finish the backbends and then you have the leg behind leg work, get through those then the titthibasanas ( always feel like a sponge in Titthi) with karandavasana still to come.

Karandavasana always feels it should be the end of the series, that's plenty right but no, more arm balances. The headstands feel like they're stuck on the end and then there's the dropbacks and you still have finishing to get through, that nice utpluthi to look forward to.....2nd series, will it ever end?

So you stubbornly keep plodding on through it, finally collapsing into the soggiest,  most disgusting savasana because you can't be bothered to change the towel,  bloomin' lovely

I said I wanted to reclaim the discipline, be careful what you wish for.

So it was heavy going, everything was pretty lame but marginally passable I guess, lots to work on though. It's my own fault, I can count on my fingers how many 2nd series practices I've done this year. So it's back to five 2nds and a Friday primary for a month at least and then see where we are, I'd like to get back to a couple each of primary, 2nd and advanced A and settle down into that for my morning practice with Vinyasa Krama in the evening.

Interesting how your view of the practice changes, for now it's just a discipline a way of grounding and centreing my day.

Second seems (to me, anyhow) to be about how to balance tenacity and equanimity. To not force, but to not give up. A challenge to tapas, for sure. It also reminds me of how zen koans are described: a red hot ball that the practitioner can not swallow nor spit out.

Yes, Grimmly, I hear you. And this is coming from somebody who doesn't even do all of second! (I'm only at Karandavasana). For me, the funny thing about second up to Karandavasana is that it takes less time to do than full primary, but it takes so much more out of me. Interesting, don't you think?

Very apt description of second, Karen: "To not force, but to not give up." Nicely said!

I keep that in mind too sometimes Noble, 2nd series proper takes, what half an hour, that's not so long, I've had dentist take longer than that to pull a tooth, still on a bad day seems like an eternity, think it'll take a couple of weeks before the good days come around again.

Loved that Karen, 'a red hot ball that the practitioner can not swallow nor spit out'. 2nd down to a tee. your right too, ( as ever) about not forcing it, best thing about coming back to it is that I know that I can do them and that they'll get better, kapo will get deeper, pasasana tighter, karanda lighter, relatively chilled about it (even though it was pretty dreadful this morning).
