So Sharath's in London and tomorrow's my day off and besides I have to be in town for dinner in the evening anyway, perhaps I could catch a class.
I knew the Primary would be full but thought there might be the chance of dropping in for the Intermediate. My Vinyasa's a little rusty...all right a lot but I can follow a count and I can pretty much do the postures or thought I could, until I found out yesterday that my drop from headstand was all wrong. No doubt I would have been sent to stand in the corner at some point but that would have been OK, be nice to catch the atmosphere.
Anyway, checked out the website and it seems you have to book and get passes and pay by cheque...something I vaguely remember from my childhood, involves something quaint called a signature.
So I guess that won't be happening.
Probably best, really suffered through 2nd this morning. Not sure I like rest days, took Saturday and creaked a bit through Sunday but it was OK, tolerable. Today though was painful, backbends didn't want to play ball and I only just managed to get my leg behind my head, did I really use to do Budhasana and Kapilasana?
Still, I think I said I was expecting the aches and pains to come at the end of last week so not too surprised, think I'll do some light Vinyasa Krama on Saturday though, too old to take a rest day.
One interesting thing. Karandavasana. To catch up, my Karandavasana is sort of OK always manage to land it and take it back up first try but it's squished, my chin ends up just off the mat as I push up making the exit untidy. So how oh how to unsquish.
Been thinking about it for a long time but last week I came across this video by yuyasarashina
There's a moment around 30 seconds in, blink and you'll miss it, where he hashis lotus on his arms and just before he takes it back up, he does something with his shoulders, kind of like he lifts his shoulder blades and gets ready to push out through the arms as he raises his lotus. Now I've always just lifted my lotus and then tried to straighten my arms or I imagine just raising it back up will take my arms up with it or something.
Anyway tried it yesterday and again this morning and something happened, arms started to straighten just a little chest lifted a little....something is going on, so there's hope. Thought about videoing it after practice this morning but I was too knackered.

Hi Grimmly,
I heard that Sharath doesn't let people drop in on Led Second Series class unless you've done intermediate with with him previously. Otherwise, he stops people at Pashasana. It would be super cool to watch led second...
Also, this is a great video of Karandavasana. That's five long breaths on his forearms. You don't find many videos of women doing karandavasana. I wish there were more!
Hi ...ecstatic. Is that right, guess it makes sense, tough enough with everyone on the same page. there are some nice videos shot by Govinda kai on youtube of led 2nd in mysore, quite something. let me know if you can't find them.
Is that five breaths? I didn't turn the sound up to listen, thought he had taken an eight or ten count. he's great been watching his video's over the years.
Have you seen Laruga's Karandavasana, beautiful find her on youtube under peaceloveyoga and look out for susananda too, she just posted a good one recently.
I need to get out more.
Thanks for commenting love the picture.
Oh you got me excited thinking you were going to do primary in London wit S.... I saw people droping by last minute in ny... But E is right only the pol who've done 2nd with him in my sore can drop in. Primary is as much fun anyway... But oh well... Another time. I'm not even going to watch that video or I will get asana envy
That policy doesn't apply in London. You can go to led Second without having been a student of Sharath first, but it is advisable to speak to the organizers beforehand.
No balls?
No, sorry Claudia, had meant to book the Primary in London back when I was doing that month of led from Joisyoga but forgot all about it. Laruga said the other week that I should do the intermediate so I thought I might have bee able to go along last minute.
Was just a thought seeing as i was going to be in London anyway but you know how much I prefer to practice alone at home.
No doubt I'll end up in Mysore sometime or other.
dunno, Grimmly, all i can focus on is how his stomach is so flat it disappears into a line. wow.
(in San Francisco they were encouraging people to attend Sharath's led second. but if you did not do pasasana perfectly, or reached for a towel to put on the bent knee, you were immediately stopped there and not allowed to progress.)
cheers,
Arturo
Thanks for that Arturo, was just a passing though re 2nd. Stopped at pasasana for using a towel, did his grandfather do that too I wonder?
Seems a bit daft when you think half the people there are probably wearing a leggings or capri's ( look at me down with the fashion lingo) which has the same effect as the towel. maybe they should make it a rule that you can only practice 2nd if your wearing kino shorts. Those leggings probably also help with bakasana, the LBH postures, Titibhasana and possibly Karandavasana, ban 'em all I say.
Kino does have a point about her shorts making the practice harder. But then of course us guys would have to shave our course hairy legs another unfair advantage.
I received a kind offer of a pass for tomorrow's Primary with Sharath from somebody who can't make it. Unfortunately it's our busiest time at work and I can't take the day off, might have been fun though, sounds like it's going to be busy. If I hadn't spent that month in march following along with his led primary from every morning I might have pulled a sickie.
