Was making this for the Vinyasa Krama subroutine version (doesn't have the roll or rock up into kukkutasana, was going to edit out that bit) but thought it wouldn't go amiss here with winter pretty much here and us struggling to get our arms through of a morning.
Noticed yesterday that I push my arms through at an angle, hadn't really struck me before that that's how I approach it. Might be useful if your working at it and trying to shove your arms through straight. hope it makes some sense
Have to turn the sound up all the way as the camera struggles to pick up my riveting narrative.
I'm pretty sweaty here as it was shot after a primary practice, a water spray is handy to have near the mat this time of year, to spray the arms and legs

Like so. We are talking now, I LOVE IT! G, thank you for this, now I cannot wait to try it... how long till I can build back up to garba? gosh, I am so eager to re-start full practice... patience!
Great tip!!!
You like, really : ) thank you Claudia, still not sure about 'talkies' but had such an Ahhhh moment that wanted to share it. I've always tended to think about it in terms of making the hole bigger rather than the angle we take the arms through the hole.
Your back up to the marichi's yes, no rush, the rolling in garbha P feels so good on the back though, no wonder you miss it.
must be nice to rediscover the poses again though, still think the janu's awsome postures, so much going on.
Yes I dig it!, the explanation was great. And if your heart said 'speak' then that is what usually happens, it comes out great!
I am back to Mari B, but after a slight fever on Sunday James asked me to stop asana till i am 7 days symptoms free, which seemed very reasonable, so I am only doing three part breathing pranayama... Will start again on Sunday, or maybe after the moon, but only half hour...
Easy does it... will get to Garba sooner or later, it is in the cards!
And yes re-discovering the poses is beautiful
Good advice. Swenson teaches it the same way, with the angled entry for the arms.
YEah, it sure does work. I remember Hamish Hendry coming over once and asking if I could do the pose. I said no impossible, my thighs are well too fat, he said 'quite the contrary' and proceeded to insert his, dry, arm through my legs..ouch, and quite a surprise! He, and David were also big on the angled entry ;) Was a very memorable way to learn that one. My connection is too jammed to see this video today tho....everything chugging.
thanks for sharing and losing body fat of thighs and calves helps too.
James knows : )
Does he Megan, wonder if he mentions it on his video, must re watch the garbha bit. Funny how you practice something for years and not notice your doing something that's so obvious. Not surprised Swenson teaches it, noticed one he has very swoopy arms, his vatayanasna of example.
Thinking about it エスタ It took me a year to nail Garbha p myself, did a kind of cheat that allowed me to bind and roll etc but I can't for the life of me remember what the cheat was. thankfully I had nailed it before visiting AYL, that would have been a surprise for me too.
I wonder about the body fat Quentin, for many women, however fit and healthy they are, what body fat they do have will often tend to settle on the backside and thighs and yet they still seem to manage the pose, sooner or later. How anyone manages it in tights/legging's/capri's is beyond me though. We're lucky in that for us guys any fat deposits end up on our belly's which doesn't seem to get in the way of too much....some of the binds perhaps, seem to remember marci D was a struggle when I had a bit of a belly but then perhaps it would have been anyway..
Amazing! This actually works for me, fatty thighs, fatty calves and all! So uncomfortable though. I'm sure the pose would feel much better if I could lose a few pounds.
Thanks Grimmly! And lovely to hear your voice :D
So glad it worked for you Yyogini. i mumbled garbha pindasana though and called my leg my arm ; )
It seems to work without the angled arms too, though I can't do it without a water spray ;) I made this video for kevin after many discussions about the pose a few weeks ago, just to show that there are many ways to skin a (vegetarian) cat...

for me it's about making a super-tight lotus then lifting the knee on the second side to make a space. And yes, I have fat thighs myself ;)
Hi Mel, and straight through it is...am I cheating ; ) thanks for passing on the link, how did I miss this. And what's this fancy lotus jump back your working on.
I don't think it's cheating either way, just different approaches :) And if only I could do the lotus jumpback without kissing the floor as I seem to do 9 times out of 10...but it's a fun trick! :)
