Just watched Laruga's (peaceloveyoga) Janu Sirsasana video on Youtube, it's one of a new series of videos she's posted recently, all quite magnificent.
Particularly liked this one as jumping into the Janu's is something I've been doing for a while, when I practice them Ashtanga style that is. Mine are untidy though, these, as ever with Laruga, are just so so precise. I tend to jump high and come slowly down into posture just as she does but then I have quite a bit of shuffling about before settling into the forward bend. And then there's Janu C, was wondering if she would try to jump straight into that one too, she does of course, mine tends to be half way between A and C and needs some adjusting.
Karandavasana
While we're with Laruga, take a look at her Karandavasana, check out how straight her arms are. Mine are still squished when I practice it that is.
I started to think that it was just how my Karandavasana was going to be, that it probably wasn't going to change, some are squished some aren't. But then I remembered this old video from Mysore head office, there's Laruga at the front a couple of years back. Very nice duck but you have to say.... it's a little squished, a tidier squished one than my own but squished all the same.
Testament then to Laruga's hard work (to find a way to land her lotus higher, keep the arms more upright and then to take them back up to vertical) ...........and my laziness.
Karandavasana doesn't come up in Vinyasa Krama. My practice is similar to the first half of 2nd followed by the first half of primary (VK version, bow, seated and asymmetric) with standing, inversions and lotus work of course but not much arm balancing. The closest I get is entering headstand from lotus, perhaps I should find a way to include it again.
It seems learning to unsquish the arms is doable after all.

Ugh... *Swoon!* Laruga's practice is AMAZING! So fluid and precise. I want to be just like her when I grow up...
Went and practiced right after writing this, a late afternoon /early evening primary, tried to make it as precise as possible throughout, hard, the mental discipline she must have. You remind me of her though Megan, when I watch your video's, she's more advanced perhaps but there's a precision to your asana too.
Laruga's practice is source of tons of inspiration, for each youtube sharing always..
Is required to go so high in the jump through before landing ?
Someone tought me the horizontal way and a posterior slowly legs entension for the exhale vinyasa instead of..
However, at the suryanamaskar stage, I tend to (same as laruga) lift my botttom as high as i can control/slow the landing..
Some place where read something about it ?
Hi Juan. There are different kinds of jump through.
I think in the beginning you tend to do the same jump through in almost every posture, maybe crossed leg, maybe straight leg whichever you find easier or that your teacher recommends, landing with your legs out straight and then moving your legs into the posture
Later you might explore jumping directly into the posture and lifting up and jumping back out of the posture.
In my Primary I do different kinds of jumps.
In paschimottanasana and ardha badha PP, I do straight leg jump throughs.
in Tirieng Mukhs eka PP, I jump with my leg back
In the janu's I jump like Laruga ( but not as neatly) directly into the janu's. I think you need a high jump for that.
In the marichi's I jump crossed leg ( like in Sharath's video
Navasana, I jump crossed legged but very high so i can swing right into the posture.
Bhuja and the kurmasana postures i jump with my arms around my legs like in 2nd series titthibhasana.
Garbha pindasana, I jump high, fold into lotus and through into the posture.
badha konasana crossed leg
The rest of primary I jump straight leg.
I don't think it's important, fun maybe, it can make the practice a little more smooth..... perhaps.
Later in 2nd and 3rd series there are some postures that you should jump straight into.
My own feeling is that the crossed leg jump through is still the best for working on building up strength.
Juan I have a post on the different jump throughs here

"My own feeling is that the crossed leg jump through is still the best for working on building up strength"
Fully agree in my case also, but only when I feel like the time stops there, in front of me and then I try to slowly reconnect the vinyasa extending my crossed legs on the mat.. sometimes this time collapse is not as clear as should be ;-)
However, i really find interesting try to control the stuff since the ceil, i think it will be a pressure point to fully engage udhijana and drishti
I will review those variations you mention..
Really impresive the Laruga's mental part to control and save the pure physic stuff, she's really there.. no doubt
